This brief two- minute video clip called The Girl Effect from girleffect.org gives a better understanding of the purpose behind our mission.
Woodland Worldwide is a school-based non-profit organization of students, teachers, parents, and community members from Woodland Regional High School in Beacon Falls, CT. Inspired by Nicholas Kristof’s and Sheryl WuDunn’s book Half the Sky, it is our mission to advance the rights of women and girls within our community and around the world. In an effort to attain our mission we:
- offer ongoing programs and scholarships, such as: the LeadershipScholarship to WRHS girls and the WWW-Alumni-Volunteer-Abroad-Scholarship2015 Scholarship to graduates of WRHS
- fundraise for non-profit organizations such as The Gimbichu Project, and Malala Fund
- educate students using articles, films, discussions, and seminars that address gender issues
- offer meetings and retreats to hone team-building, leadership, and problem solving skills needed for activism work
